Rdp 8.0
Applies to: Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2012 R2
You can control a remote PC by using a Microsoft Remote Desktop client. The client can run on almost any device, including on your mobile smartphone. The client gives you the same powers you would have if you could reach the PC's keyboard. Through the client, you can:
A RDP 8.1 client update exists for Windows 7 SP1 as well, but unlike the RDP 8.0 update for Windows 7, it does not add a RDP 8.1 server component to Windows 7. Furthermore, if RDP 8.0 server function is desired on Windows 7, the KB 2592687 (RDP 8.0 client and server components) update must be installed before installing the RDP 8.1 update.
- Operate the apps that are installed on the PC.
- Access the files and network resources of the PC.
- Leave the apps open when you end the client.
To check your Remote Desktop version, click the Start button and search for Remote Desktop. Launch the Remote Desktop program, click the icon at the top-left of the window, select About. This will show you your current client version (7.1, 8.0, or 8.1). The gpedit.msc shows that RDP 8.0 is enabled but during remote session it does not use the RDP 8.0 (The Network sign was not there on the top bar, it's the RDP 8.0 indicator). The reason behind it that when I replaced the Registry.pol file and ran the command 'gpupdate /force' it.
Before you start, see the supported configuration article. The article discusses the PC configurations that the Remote Desktop clients can connect to. Also see the client FAQ article.
